It is now 2025 a happy brand-new year. Let us set aside economic downturn and low hiring from last year and be merry! Jokes aside, it is true that now the company that now hiring is flooded by a lot of potential candidates. More and more position is flooded by applicant that above the requirement, people are that desperate. You see, there is a saying that “pay peanuts and get the monkey”. It is supposed to be an insult for the company who seeks to pay low wages. However, the reality is when given a chance between biting the dust and some peanuts, even the most reasonable and trained monkey will choose the latter, let alone if you can offer them feast in this era of famine!
As you can see, now is the good times to hiring candidate, just scours a little bit on linked in and any job platform and you will see many potential candidates feel the angst thanks to a lot of ghost jobs and ghosting while keep trying to get their name on the hiring managers. Your company can offer salvation for those weary souls.
We all know that hiring “overqualified candidate” comes with up and down, but we should keep it real. It is true that they may job hopping when another opportunity presents itself but at the very least the “trained monkey” will try to survive for now. It is a good time to get short of a “free trial” of their labours while keep the benefits and salaries increase as their contribution in the company become more and more apparent. Based on the research we can conclude that giving reward for time to time is better compared to single lump sum payment. They may feel overwhelmed at first since you pay for peanuts.
But as we know, they also know that the economy is tough right now so they will try the offer you are offering. I believe in methods of reverse psychology, you see as they taken the contract and providing the results your company desire, the rewards will come like a flood! This methods of jab, jab, jab right hook might hook them for good to your company! Congrats, now you hired the desired applicant… What to do next to the unlucky souls that being rejected not because they unqualified but just because there are just not enough job listings in your company?
You can keep in touch with them! I know it is hard to keep in touch with all applicants, but an automatic rejection email is better than being ghosted and better yet, email the potential candidate personally if you think this candidate is competent when given the chance. Don’t burn the bridge down! They will appreciate your effort and I’m sure they will reciprocate you and your company in the future.
Happy hiring!
